Newcastle screens Sorry We Missed You in the approach to BAFTA night

With just days to go before the best British films go under the spotlight at the BAFTA awards night, Newcastle cinema-goers are to have another chance to see Sorry We Missed You.

Ken Loach's is nominated in the category of outstanding British film at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards which will take place at the Royal Albert Hall in London on February 2.

All eyes will be on the esteemed director whose previous Newcastle-made film I, Daniel Blake won the same category in 2017.

That similarly hard-hitting film also scooped the coveted Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival. Sorry We Missed You was also nominated for the Palme d'Or and has come in for similar acclaim from both critics and cinema audiences alike.

It will come up against some heavyweights at the BAFTAs where its rivals for outstanding British film include and biographical Elton John musical Rocketman.

Loach was in Newcastle in October for a red carpet screening of the film at Tyneside Cinema where the audience gave it - and its makers and attending cast -  a standing ovation at the end.

Now there is to be another chance to watch it on the big screen in the city before the big awards night. Anyone who missed it can find out what all the fuss is about at Cineworld in The Gate where it can be seen on Wednesday, January 22 at 10.30am. See here to book tickets.
