Newcastle scouted Japan international before lockdown and have interest in Takehiro Tomiyasu

Newcastle United ventured to Italy before lockdown to check out Japan international right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Chronicle Live understands that the 21-year-old is on United's shortlist of summer transfers but much depends on DeAndre Yedlin's next move.

The US international could still be sold this summer and has been offered to other clubs around Europe as Newcastle try to wheel and deal.

Tomiyasu is valued at around £15million by Serie A side Bologna and United know their main priority in this window is at the other end of the field.

Newcastle head coach Steve Bruce is eager to land former AFC Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser with the club still pushing for a deal from the Scotland international.

The week started with a proposal to sign Cherries striker Callum Wilson in a cash plus player deal involving Matt Ritchie, but up until last night no concrete offer had been put to the South Coast club.

Ritchie is also believed to be torn about the idea of returning south having signed a new deal on Tyneside but also open to a move back to Dorset where he would be closer to his family.

A loan option for Arsenal's Rob Holding has also been delayed this week.
