Where to watch the World Cup in Newcastle: Fan zones and pubs showing England matches

The World Cup is in full swing, with host nation Qatar leaving the opening game with their first defeat. England will play their third group match on November 29 against Wales.

Unlike last summer's Euro 2020, there won't be any packed-out beer gardens cheering on the Three Lions. Instead, fans will be donning a scarf and gloves as the cold weather and dark nights set in for many fixtures.

Regardless, there are many options for England fans to still get that matchday atmosphere across Newcastle. Here are several fanzones to enjoy the games in the city.

Where can I watch England games in Newcastle during the 2022 World Cup?

Central Park

Central Park looks set to be one of the biggest fanzines open throughout the World Cup. Previously, spectators packed this out during the Women's Euros earlier this year and now they've returned with a new "indoor" venue better suited for the time of year.

The venue is outside Newcastle's Life Centre and has a capacity for up to 2,000 fans. Take advantage of the pre-existing bars, handy heaters and huge screens to take in all the action.

Fans will need to book tickets, which start from £8 for students or £10 otherwise. There are VIP options and group bookings also, but be quick as tickets for England's games are being snapped up quickly.

For those of you just interested in watching the games, group stages for other nations including Spain, Germany, Portugal and France are available for free. Tickets for these games can be reserved in advance.

NX Newcastle

The former O2 Academy will open its doors to fans for an exciting fan zone with live music, DJs and match analysis from host Sky Sports' Keith Downie. The venue also teases appearances from England legends, though no specifics have been confirmed.

The venue will be showing all three of England's group stages against Iran, the USA and Wales with doors opening two hours prior to kick-off. Tickets, which cost £10 plus fees, are available from NX.

Vertu Motors Arena

The home of the Newcastle Eagles basketball team is being transformed into the "ultimate England fanzone" for England's games this winter. It promises the "biggest and best screens and sound system" with pre-match music, entertainment and special guests.

Tickets cost from £15 for adults and £10 for children for seats in the stands or £18 on the pitch. VIP packages are available with top-tier seats and drinks packages, while hospitality packages come with a three-course meal, drinks package and exclusive suite.

Which pubs will be showing the games?

For those who miss out on fanzone tickets or prefer things on the smaller side, there are many pubs offering chances to watch the game in smaller venues for free. Use our handy tool to find pubs near you that will be showing the tournament, just input your postcode below.

Sizzling Pubs

There are Sizzling Pubs in Gateshead and Wallsend that will be showing the game so you can enjoy a bite to eat while watching Gareth Southgate's squad face off against Iran, the USA and Wales. Tables are available to book on their website, with a £5 off voucher available if you sign up to their newsletter.

Great UK Pubs

As the games get started, some football mad fans among you might be interested in more than just watching England's games. Great UK Pubs is there for you, as they're showing every game live on either BBC or ITV.

There are tonnes of venues available to choose from, including the Percy Arms, Three Bulls Heads and Black Garter to name a few. Tables are available to be reserved on the website or you can just walk up and find a spot in front of a TV.

STACK Seaburn

An honourable mention should go to STACK Seaburn for those fans a little way out of the city. STACK has partnered up with Budweiser to present an official fanzone for some of the major games of the tournament.

The container village will be showing the games on the big screen alongside STACK’s usual entertainment – the key England fixtures will be shown with full commentary with entertainment taking place before and after the games. A limited number of tables will be available to book, providing they are occupied for at least an hour before kick-off, and the remaining space will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The tables on the upper plaza, which have perfect views of the big screen, can be reserved at the cost of £10 per person, which is exchanged for drinks vouchers on arrival.
