Newcastle's Three Mile wins Pub and Bar of the Year award

The transformed Three Mile Inn in Newcastle - which reopened last spring after a £7.5m makeover to become Three Mile - is celebrating success at the National Pub and Bar Awards 2022.

The venue, on the Great North Road in Gosforth, has taken the title of North East Pub and Bar of the Year for Tyne and Wear. It will now join other regional winners at a red carpet event in London later this year, where there will be 15 regional awards and an overall winner’s title up for grabs.

As part of its revamp, a new restaurant and coffee shop was added to the site along with an extended terrace with outdoor heating and TVs. The Three Mile site, owned by The Malhotra Group, is also home to the four-star 64-bedroom Great North Hotel.

The awards are organised by Pub and Bar Magazine and its editor Tristan O’Hana said: “We looked at some wonderful venues across the Tyne and Wear area and the Malhotra Group was in the unique position of having a number of their sites being up against each other.

“Pubs and bars were judged on their overall offer and professionalism – and a huge thing we looked at this year was how quickly they returned to normality." He praised the team at the Three Mile and Malhotra's knack of blending "modern hospitality with the more traditional aspects".

It is the second year in a row that the company has celebrated success at the awards, following Grey Street restaurant-bar Leila Lily’s win of the same title in 2021. Sean Miller, business manager at Three Mile, was delighted about this year's award.

He said: “Tyne and Wear is home to a whole host of excellent bars and pubs so it’s amazing to beat off tough competition to take home such an impressive title. This award is a testament to the efforts of our whole team who go above and beyond to deliver the best possible customer service and experience and we’re also very grateful to our customers for all of their support."

He added: “And, of course, the last few years have provided unique challenges across the entire hospitality industry, so it’s a great boost to have the Three Mile recognised in this way.” For more information about the Three Mile see here.
