Newcastle's stunning starting XI if Eddie Howe lands January transfer targets

Newcastle United could name a star studded XI when they face Everton after the January transfer window slams shut.

The Magpies are close to signing Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier and have seen a bid for Dutch centre-back Sven Botman rejected, according to the latest reports.

Eddie Howe's side are in the market for defenders in every position and are not hanging about.

Newcastle are two points adrift from safety but are in need of reinforcements if they're to stave off relegation to the Championship.

Burnley's James Tarkowski and Everton's Lucas Digne are among the reported targets for the Magpies and their arrivals would completely transform the worst defence in the Premier League.

The recent injury to Callum Wilson means Newcastle are also in the market for a striker and have reportedly been in contact with Arsenal over a potential loan move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gunners captain has fallen out of favour with Mikel Arteta and is being linked with a move away from the Emirates in January.

We've taken a look at how the Magpies could line-up against their former boss Rafa Benitez when the two sides play each other on February 8th.

Newcastle have also been tentatively linked with a loan move for Jesse Lingard, but speculation has fallen quite on that front.

Given their current Premier League standing, it's no surprise to see the Toon linked with a number of other defenders; the likes of Joe Rodon from Spurs and Rob Holding have also been name dropped in recent weeks.
