A favourite city centre boozer, renowned for its retro music nights, has announced its comeback date and customers are clearly eager to get the party restarted.
Pop bar Sgt Peppers in Vine Lane off the top of Northumberland Street, which is renowned for its playlist of disco hits from across the decades, posted a reopening date of May 17 on its Facebook page, telling followers: "See you all there. We have missed you."
And, judging by comments from followers, it seems their customers have missed it just as much.
One described its upcoming reopening as "Music to my ears" while another wrote on the Facebook page "can't wait" and one included "counting down the days".
Another fan added "Great! But please don’t lose the 1970’s music."
Others called it the "best bar in town" and said "can't beat the old music".
The pub, which first opened in 1988, had been previously missed even the short time it closed for a spruce-up which it revealed early last year, not long before the pandemic hit.
Popular for not only its music but also its value drinks such as Pink Lady, a mix of rose wine, vodka and lemonade, its reopening will mark the return too of its popular Friday to Sunday DJ and disco nights.
In February the city pub sparked excitement and 113 responses to a post describing a tempting scene of the future.
It wrote: "Picture this! It’s Friday June the 25th ! Sgt Peppers is packed, Not a Mask / Visor or Social distance barrier in sight Billy Ocean Red light spells danger is pumping through the speakers ... Shots are £1 each and Double Smirnoff and Mixers are £3.95 What a Day / Night That’ll be ... WHO’s IN ???"
