Newcastle's Sean Longstaff keen to stay and fight for place amid Watford interest

Sean Longstaff wants to stay at Newcastle United and fight for his place - and a new contract.

The Geordie midfielder has not appeared since the 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United and his lack of game time has alerted a list of interested clubs.

Sources at Watford have suggested to Chronicle Live that the Hertfordshire club's initial conversations on the agent circuit have resulted in news that the 23-year-old's first choice is to stay at Newcastle.

In a complex situation, Newcastle could find themselves having to move out another squad member to make a loan bid for Hamza Choudhury a possibility.

Watford have also looked at signing Matty Longstaff but such a move is less interesting to the Magpies as he would not free up any squad space due to his age.

Choudbury was an unused sub in Leicester's but would be allowed to leave the King Power Stadium if Brendan Rodgers is able to sign Nathaniel Chalobah of Watford.

Just to make things even more tricky, Watford would take Choudhury on loan in a swap deal for the former Middlesbrough and Napoli midfielder.

Newcastle hope that they can offload DeAndre Yedlin to Galatasaray to free up one squad space but want to sign two players on deadline day.

However, time is running out rapidly for the Magpies with the deadline fast approaching.

Sean Longstaff was also subject of interest from Valencia but Newcastle have not received an official bid at this stage.
