Newcastle's Paul Dummett heads to new city centre bar as Magpies contract extended

Paul Dummett headed to the launch of a new bar in Newcastle, right before it was announced that his contract with NUFC had been extended once again.

A loyal servant to United, Paul has been on the books at St James' Park since his days as a youth team player, before breaking through to the first team squad in the 2013-14 season, after loan spells at both Gateshead and St Mirren. And, at the start of this week it was announced that the local lad, together with reserve keeper Loris Karius, had signed extensions to their contracts, which will keep them at the club until summer 2024.

Left back Paul is the Magpies' longest serving player, having been signed up at the age of just nine, so it felt very apt for him to be in attendance for opening night of The Geordie Star, the fully refurbished bar right opposite NX, the former O2 Academy, on Westgate Road in the heart of the city.

Known for years as pre and post gig haunt, The Star Inn, the venue has had an extensive makeover to re-open as The Geordie Star, with the place steeped in Geordie culture and local identity. There are Hollywood Walk of Fame style stars dedicated to North East stars like Sam Fender, Sting, Alan Shearer and Perrie Edwards, as well as murals on the wall featuring well known local faces like Sam's much loved saxophone player Johnny Bluehat.

The Geordie Star had its VIP launch night towards the end of last week and Paul headed along, with his photo being shared on the bar's Instagram on Tuesday. In the snap he is seen holding up a black and whote shirt, personalised with 'Geordie Star 23' on the back, with the picture's caption reading 'Congrats to Paul on the extended contract! Showing his support at our grand opening last week. Bring on the match days!"
