Newcastle's Ouseburn Tunnel opens for afternoon tea in a double treat served up with Hotel du Vin

Tea and tunnel tours Tours of the Victoria Tunnel in Newcastle tend to be fast sell-outs and this spring the extra attraction of an afternoon tea is set to make them even more in demand.

Combined Tea and Tunnel tours have proved a hit in the past with visitors who get to explore the Victoria Tunnel section in the Ouseburn and then follow-up with indulgent tea and cakes at the nearby Hotel du Vin.

And there is still a chance to bag a place on the upcoming March 14 and April 4.

During the afternoon tour, visitors will be able to learn about the history of the tunnel - whose former uses included being a wartime air raid shelter -  and hear some fascinating stories.

They then will go to the hotel in City Road for a war ration-inspired afternoon tea of carrot cake, corn beef pasty and Victoria sponge prepared by head chef Kevin Bland.

Tickets for two people, as well as individual tickets, are currently available for the event.

The Newcastle Tea and Tunnel Tour will take place on Saturday, March 14 and Saturday, April 4 at 1.20pm when guest will meet at the hotel in readiness for the tour to start at 1.30pm. A previously-available March 28 date has now sold out.

The cost for the event, which will  last until 3pm, costs £45 for two people or £22.50 for one. For more details and to book see here.
