The New Year's Eve fireworks over Newcastle Harbour will go ahead, City of Newcastle has confirmed.
The council made the call at lunchtime on Tuesday, ahead of the scheduled 9pm pyrotechnics display.
It comes after a City of Newcastle spokesman told the Newcastle Herald on Monday that the council was taking a "risk-based approach" to its decision as to whether or not to go ahead with the display.
A statement from City of Newcastle on Tuesday afternoon said the latest forecast showed "favourable wind conditions".

It said the Rural Fire Service had also given approval for the city's fireworks show to go ahead.

"Wind conditions will continue to be monitored through the evening to ensure we can enjoy a safe and exciting New Year's Eve, and any updates will be provided via our social channels," the council said.
On Monday, Maitland council cancelled its pyrotechnics display because of an "unacceptable level of risk" - fireworks were also shelved at Paterson and Caves Beach.

A Total Fire Ban was in place across the Hunter on Tuesday, with temperatures reaching 39.8 degrees at Cooranbong, 38.8 at Maitland, 38 at Cessnock and 36.2 at Nobbys by midday.
Storms put a halt to last year's fireworks in Maitland and Newcastle and, earlier this month, Cessnock and Lake Macquarie excluded fireworks from their 2019 carols events.
