Newcastle's new owners set to take 'targeted' approach to transfer window but dugout changes expected

Newcastle United's new owners will not be throwing an endless amount of cash at the club - but will instead adopt a 'targeted' approach.

With the Saudi-backed takeover of the Magpies finally nearing completion after an 18-month saga, attention has turned to what fans and indeed the players and current head coach Steve Bruce can expect in the coming weeks.

The deal is set to go through within 24 hours following behind the scenes talks with the consortium and the Premier League.

Speaking on The Everything is Black and White Podcast, Mark Douglas and Andrew Musgrove spoke about what they expect from new owners once the deal is complete.

"In terms of the plans," Douglas said, "my understanding is that they had plans ready to go in the summer had they got the green light.

"They've been fairly well connected with people within football so I would think we'll see the appointment of a director of football fairly quickly in time for January for when the window opens.

"There will be a change of manager fairly soon because they will know the situation is toxic around Steve Bruce - ironically, I think he would have got some time last summer had it gone through and would have got a few months to prove himself.

"They'll then start a root and branch reform of the academy and training ground, they'll look at everything."

And while the club will become the wealthiest in the Premier League - there's an acceptance that the build to a successful side will be gradual, and not in the same fashion that saw Manchester City race to the top of the tree.

"It'll be a very long term project," Douglas added.

"I don't think the plan is to throw hundreds and hundreds of millions at it - it'll be a targeted investment but a lot of investment."
