Moussa Sissoko has described Arsenal as “the club of my heart” and suggested he would like to move there from Newcastle United during the transfer window.

Arsène Wenger has been linked with Sissoko, even though the Arsenal manager’s need appears to be for a defensive-minded midfield signing. Sissoko is a more thrusting, offensive player.

Sissoko said: “If Wenger calls me, I’ll have a man-to-man talk with him and we’ll see what happens. Arsenal have always been the club of my heart.

“The transfer window is open so things can happen. It’s not doing my head in too much. I’m still focused on Newcastle. If something happens or something doesn’t happen, so be it. I hope to sign for a big club one day, but I don’t know when. Staying in England is my priority.”

Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked to Sissoko but the manager, Laurent Blanc, says that he is not interested. “Sissoko is a good player but he doesn’t have the profile we’re looking for during the winter transfer window,” Blanc said.

Hamburg have made a move for the Arsenal midfield target Krystian Bielik, of Legia Warsaw. The 17-year-old has been in Germany for talks, although his preference is to sign for Arsenal. Wenger has seen an offer of €2m (£1.5m) rejected by Legia, who want a package, including add-ons, of at least €3m.
