Newcastle's Miguel Almiron sent off SEVEN MINUTES after coming on in friendly

Newcastle United midfielder Miguel Almiron was sent off just seven minutes after coming on in Paraguay's friendly against Mexico for an "awful" challenge.

Almiron was given a straight red card after going through the back of Jose Juan Vazquez, with his studs raking down the back of the Mexico midfielder's calf.

The match in California pitted Almiron - who became Newcastle's record signing in January - up against his former Atlanta United boss Gerardo Martino, who was taking charge of Mexico for just the second time.

Almiron had been sent on with Paraguay 3-0 down, but after quickly registering an assist for a Hernan Perez goal, he was given his marching orders just three minutes later.
