Newcastle’s lessons from Roman Abramovich as Barcelona set Philippe Coutinho transfer stance

It has now been over a month since a ball was last kicked at Stamford Bridge.

The return date is still unknown, although there have been suggestions that June 8th has been earmarked as a potential day for the return of Premier League action as a determination to finish the season remains.

The coronavirus pandemic may have bought a temporary halt to the action, but that doesn’t stop news from in and around the club.

Newcastle’s lesson from Roman Abramovic

Newcastle are on the verge of being taken over, ending Mike Ashley’s 13-year association with the club.

It is claimed that the deal only needs to be signed off by the Premier League to be completed, with reports suggesting that the agreement will see the new owners pay a fee in the region of £300 million to Ashley.

It also means that the Toon are likely to have more financial power when it comes to the upcoming transfer windows and with that comes increased ambition and expectations.

So, what can the Magpies learn from Roman Abramovic’s acquisition of Chelsea back in 2003?

Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho stance

Chelsea are one of a few Premier League clubs to be linked with a summer move for Barcelona man Philippe Coutinho.

The forward is currently on loan at Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich but looks unlikely to sign a permanent deal with the German club.

That gives another chance to swoop in and acquire the former Liverpool player, with Chelsea one of the clubs most heavily linked.

Barcelona boss Quique Setien recently delivered an update on the player , but despite his comments, Goal claim that Barcelona are trying their best to sell to a Premier League club this summer with Chelsea the favourites to get the Brazilian when the window opens.
