Newcastle's Lazy Bear winter tipi reveals menu and Santa's Grotto plans ahead of Friday's opening

The new winter tipi which will be bringing some early festive spirit to Newcastle ahead of this weekend has revealed an idea of what will be on its menu, including seasonal drinks of mulled wine and a specially-created spiced gin.

From Friday, the Lazy Bear pop-up on the plaza area outside the Central Station will be inviting customers into its cosy space which will offer a warming cafe environment by day then take on a thoroughly festive feel by night. And at weekends in December it will be transformed into a Santa's Grotto to welcome young ones.

Food and drink are set to be huge attractions inside the tipi. First customers will find plenty of comfortable seating within the giant marquee where they can tuck up with a drink or enjoy food such as soup and bread; savouries by sustainable pie-maker Pieminster and desserts by The Train Line in Seaburn which will showcase the likes of dessert sharing boards and toasted marshmallows.

Plans for the return of a tipi to the Central Plaza were announced in the summer and then excitement has grown with more news of the tipi's plans to run throughout the festive season and into early January. The area of its site on Neville Street hosted the original Hadrian's Tipi before it moved to the site of the former Stack.

The Lazy Bear's festive-theme drinks menu will include a Lazy Bear Spiced Gin which has been made in collaboration with the Poetic License distillery in Sunderland. Customers are promised plenty of other boozy choice too, with a full bar and other seasonal treats of mulled wine and cider alongside hot drinks including 'spectacular' hot chocolate.

A special Christmas menu will be on offer in December when an event programme will also get under way with the Santa's Grotto set to open on Saturdays throughout the month when elves will be on hand to arrange the visits as well as games and goodie bags. Bookings for this will open on Monday, November 7.

From November 4, Lazy Bear will be open daily to walk-ins from noon until midnight (11pm on Sundays). A Lazy Bear coffee hut will be open from 8am for takeaways. Anyone wanting to book for the Santa's Grotto from next week should email info@wearelazybear.com and for more information about the venue see here.
