Newcastle's interest in 'unbelievable' Chelsea outcast and offer incoming for Liverpool signing

Here is your 4am Newcastle United transfer digest.

Ross Barkley

Newcastle United have been linked with a summer move for Ross Barkley by the bookmakers, and the Athletic report the Magpies would be interested if he becomes available.

The England international has spent the season on loan at Aston Villa, but faded out of the first-team picture following a promising start to life at Villa Park.

Barkley has previously struggled for regular game time at Chelsea, and it is unclear whether the 27-year-old would feature in Thomas Tuchel's plans next season.

Steve Bruce is reportedly an admirer of the former Everton playmaker, and the latest report indicates Newcastle would consider a move if the midfielder is made available.

It is a deal that would likely receive the backing of Callum Wilson following his comments to Sky Sports Super 6 podcast.

The Newcastle striker said: "Playing with him and training and what not at international level, for me, as a striker, he would be a great person to play with at club level,

"He'd help you score goals and things like that. I didn't even realise he was going to go on loan from Chelsea or else I would have said to Bruce, I would have said to the manager, 'You've got to bring him up here because he's unbelievable'.

Ozan Kabak

Newcastle have previously been linked with a move for Kabak, who agreed a mid-season loan switch to Liverpool amid a defensive crisis for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Injuries restricted the Turkish international to just 13 appearances for the Reds, but he delivered a series of steady displays and was even described by Klopp as 'incredible' following the away victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

However, Liverpool will reportedly not consider a permanent move for the 21-year-old, and the Athletic report the defender will be offered to Newcastle this summer.

Schalke were previously quoted as demanding £18m for the defender, although the German outfit have since suffered relegation following a disastrous campaign.
