Newcastle's ideal transfer profile revealed and the Aston Villa warning sent by Steve Bruce

Newcastle United will not be able to spend big like Aston Villa have to try and break into the top 10 but Steve Bruce has vowed to assemble a squad that supporters will 'enjoy'.

Villa, in their first campaign back in the Premier League, stayed up by just a point on the final day of last season but Dean Smith's side have never been in danger of going down this time around and currently lie in 11th place with a game in hand.

Smith has been able to spend big since Villa were promoted two years ago and Ollie Watkins, Matty Cash, Emiliano Martinez and Bertrand Traore all arrived last summer while Morgan Sansone followed in January.

In order to try and bridge that nine-point gap between Villa and Newcastle, Bruce is going to have to be especially savvy in the transfer market this summer and how the the Magpies' head coach would love to bring in another 'quality' player in the mould of Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin and Joe Willock.

"There's an insatiable appetite from the supporters to be in the top 10 of the Premier League. That's where we all want to be," Bruce told reporters on Zoom.

"We're not going to be able to do it just by being like what Aston Villa have done. Little by little, we can put it into play. We can't do it overnight.

"I believe we've got the makings of a decent team when everyone's fit. Of course, when we can add to it, that bit more quality...we've seen the quality which Allan has shown, which Callum has shown, which Joe Willock has shown.

"These are really good players at this level so, slowly but surely, we'll have to add to them and get a squad together that the supporters enjoy, that they can support, and that's the most important vision for me like everyone at the club I'm sure."
