Newcastle's favourite car karaoke song has been revealed and it's a classic

Who doesn't love a good sing along in the car, whether they're in the driving seat or a passenger?

We know there are plenty of Geordies out there who love nothing more and with that in mind, charity The Children’s Trust has released a nationwide poll showing how music plays an integral part in our everyday lives, revealing almost 75% of people admit that they listen to music to reduce their stress levels.

The research also found more than 4 in 5 (83%) Brits admit to singing in the car, with Neil Diamond’s ‘Sweet Caroline’ loved most by the city of Newcastle (43%) followed by Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘Dancing Queen’ by Abba.

The number 1 car karaoke track for Geordies comes as no surprise to us - you only have to wander into STACK or Cosy Joes on a Saturday night, or at events like Paddy Fest, to see the wild reaction the classic song gets every time it's played in the Toon!

With the huge psychological and physical benefits music can have on a person’s outlook and health, it’s no surprise that the power of music also has a profound effect on a young person’s rehabilitation after an acquired brain injury.

Brain injury rehabilitation specialists The Children’s Trust maintains that music has the power to inspire and motivate children to walk, talk and smile again after a life-changing accident or illness. For those living with brain injury, music therapy can help express emotion and there has been scientifically-proven health benefits.

McFly drummer and supporter of The Children’s Trust, Harry Judd, comments: “Music is a powerful tool. It can stir memories and powerfully resonate with our emotions but for children with brain injury, music can have a life-changing influence.

"It can motivate them to reconnect with the world and relearn the skills they’ve lost. It can help them to move and walk again, and to communicate and talk again. I hope that everyone gets behind this campaign and shows their support."
