Newcastle's winless run has stretched to 11 games in all competitions after they were beaten 2-1 by Leeds on Tuesday night.
Raphinha gave the visitors a first-half lead at St James' Park, and although Miguel Almiron scored a second-half equaliser to end the Magpies' run of 454 minutes without a goal, Jack Harrison netted the winner for Leeds just four minutes later.
The result sees the pressure mount even further on manager Steve Bruce, with his side just seven points off the relegation zone having played two games more than 18th placed Fulham.
And judging by what was seen in the warm-up in Tuesday's game, things may not get better anytime soon.
Footage which went viral on social media showed Newcastle's forwards taking shots at the goalkeeper ahead of kick-off from just inside the box.
But their hapless attempts demonstrate why the side have scored only a measly two goals in their last nine matches in all competitions.
First Callum Wilson attempts a curling effort into the far corner, but it misses the post by a good few inches.
It is then Jacob Murphy's turn to have a crack, but the winger takes a touch before blasting his effort high and wide over the bar.
Finally Wilson has one more go, but repeats his trick of the first time, sending a shot wide of the far post.
It is a warm-up routine which will be watched with some amusement by rival supporters, but will do little to encourage Bruce that things will soon get better at St James' Park.
Speaking after the latest defeat he told BBC Sport: "This league is demanding and cruel at times. I don't know if I've been on a worse run in 20 years but tonight, I've seen a little bit of something and we will start again tomorrow.
"Allan Saint-Maximin has been the one, along with Almiron, who lifts the place up with their ability and to be more of a goal threat, we need him and Ryan Fraser to stay fit.
"If those two stay well and Almiron stays well, then hopefully we have a front three that will create enough to hopefully get us where we want to be."
