A pair of wedding cake makers from Newcastle are set to have a ‘big day’ of their own – appearing on popular TV show Bake Off: The Professionals.
Richard Winfield and Bernadett Szucs have revealed they are competing in the first heat of the Great British Bake Off spin-off, which will be shown on Channel 4 next week.
The duo are behind family run patisserie shop Dreamworld Cakes, which sells sweet treats including macarons, Portugese custard tarts, eclairs and truffles, while also creating wedding cakes from its base in Ouseburn, Newcastle.
They revealed their television debut to the cake shop’s customers on Twitter and Facebook accounts.
A message posted by Dreamworld Cakes’ Facebook account said: “And finally we can tell you what was our special project in the last few months... We are very excited to announce that we took part at the GBBO professionals this year.
“Thank you for your endless amount of understanding and patience!
“You will be able to watch the program next week Tuesday 8pm on Channel4.”
Bake Off: The Professionals pits some of the country’s top bakers against each other to showcase their talents.
The bakers will be judged by Cherish Finden and Benoit Blin, while the show will be presented by former GBBO contestant Liam Charles and comedian Tom Allen.
During the first heat the Dreamworld Cakes team will hopefully rise to the occasion when they compete against bakers from Anges de Sucre, Chiltern Firehouse, Pale Hall Hotel, South Place Hotel, and 1884.
The second episode will feature chefs from Kimpton Fitzroy London, Pennyhill Park, the Four Season at Ten Trinity Square, The Courthouse Cheshire, Tigerlily and Honoré Patisserie.
Bake Off: The Professionals will air on Channel 4 on Tuesday, April 30 at 8pm.
