Newcastle's Choriza May lands dream guest judging role on Drag Race Spain

Three years from taking the crown in the 2019 final of Drag Idol Newcastle and months on from starring on RuPaul's Drag Race UK,. Spanish sensation Choriza May has been handed an amazing op[opportunity to return to her homeland and be a gust judge on Drag Race Espana.

As soon as Geordie drag fans set eyes on Choriza in early 2019, they knew she was something special and her Drag Idol routines, which drew on current affairs like Brexit, as well as her own path to coming out, went onto win her the whole competition and a place on the main stage of Northern Pride that summer. At the end of last year, the whole of the UK and fans over the world got to see her talent as she landed a covered spot in season 3 of BBC's Drag Race UK.

And, while she made an earlier than expected exit, in a shocking double elimination alongside River Medway, Choriza has seen her career soar, with release of her insanely catchy single My Pussy Is Like A Peach, a tour with Drag Race girl band Pick n Mix and a lead roles in two drag pantos, one in London's West End.

But it's the call from the bosses of the epic new season of Drag Race Espana that sent the adopted Geordie senorita reeling as they offered her a place on the panel. ChronicleLive caught up with Choriza after the episode aired and she told us: "It was truly an honour! To be recognised in your own country as a figure that deserves a spot in such a privileged position is such a dream come true!

"I was not nervous at all ! I felt ready and excited! The scary part is to be in that runway, the judging panel was a lot more chill."

What made Chioriza's role on the new run of Drag Race Espana even more exciting was the worldwide acclaim the season and its queens have had, with so much online buzz about the amazing tasks and the jaw dropping looks. And, as a proud Spaniard, Choriza is thrilled its had such huge recognition. She continued: "They deserve it, they are such hard workers and we have such rich culture that is being showcased in the show, is just joyful to watch."

On the huge success she's had back in Britain, Choriza added: "They have been the most exhausting and the happiest six months of my life. I get to do what I love every single day! And every tour is so different, for me it never gets boring!

And finally, on the subject of what's next, Choriza teased: "More music, tours, TV and very exciting projects that you will see very soon! I would love to perform in Newcastle a lot more than what I do to be honest. Next time will be in the Season 3 official tour, I can’t wait!"
