Newcastle Rugby League have abandoned the 2021 season amid the state's ongoing coronavirus lockdown.
The decision was made at a Newcastle RL board meeting on Thursday night.
It comes after officials had held on recently hoping to resume competition with a condensed finals series, culminating in a decider at McDonald Jones Stadium on October 2.
However, the campaign is now officially over with no guarantee COVID-19 restrictions will ease in time for teams to train together and play any more fixtures.
The current public health orders remain in place until at least midnight on September 10.
There have been no matches since August 1.
Central Coast clubs Wyong and The Entrance were sidelined from the end of June.
Maitland claimed the minor premiership with Cessnock, Central, Macquarie and Wests making up the top five.
Newcastle RL run first grade, reserves and under 19s.
Five community competitions were cancelled last month - Newcastle Hunter seniors as well as Newcastle, Maitland, Hunter Valley and Group 21 juniors.
Group 21 seniors have yet to make a final call as they await next week's update from the NSW government. Singleton, Aberdeen and Denman remain in contention for the major title.
