Update: Newcastle Racecourse cancels Plate Day but Ladies Day is still planned

Newcastle Racecourse has canceled Plate Day but is hopeful Ladies Day can still go ahead.

On Friday, the racecourse told ChronicleLive that both June's three-day Northumberland Plate Festival and July's Ladies Day fixture will go ahead, if coronavirus lockdown restrictions are eased.

But Newcastle Racecourse has since been told it has to axe Plate Day - which was planned for Thursday June 25, Friday June 26 and Saturday June 27 - following an update from the British Horseracing Authority late on Friday evening that all fixtures will be cancelled until at least June 1.

Ticketholders will be contacted by Newcastle Racecourse

Ladies Day - one of the marquee dates on the North East's social calendar - is still set to go ahead at Newcastle Racecourse on Saturday July 25, as things stand.

A Newcastle Racecourse spokesperson told ChronicleLive: "With regards any fixtures from July 1 onwards, we will continue to plan as if they are going ahead, and will update customers as soon as we have any further news."

The Pussycat Dolls are due to perform at Newcastle Racecourse on Ladies Day after the racing.

Singer Jack Savoretti was set to perform after the Plate Festival races on the Friday evening, while Disco Classical were lined up to provide the post Plate Day entertainment on Saturday June 27.

Tickets for Ladies Day remain on sale.
