Newcastle Quayside bar and diner Empourium is on the market - three months after opening

A Newcastle Quayside bar has been put on the market after just three months of trading.

Late night bar and diner Empourium opened on Newcastle’s Sandhill in August, following the closure of cocktail bar Popolo, bringing with it a heady mix of cocktails, music and American-diner style food.

Now, having invested heavily in transforming the two-bar venue into Empourium, directors have announced a move into other areas of the industry, paving the way for a new tenant to take on the Quayside site.

Empourium has a large ground floor bar and cafe area, with capacity for 500 people across the the two separate bars.

It also has a pavement cafe and a 3am licence, seven days a week.

Michael Allen, director of Empourium, said: “Following a successful period of growth and development we are now looking to branch into new areas of the industry.

“A significant amount has been invested in creating a stylish and contemporary bar with adjoining diner in an area of unrivalled regeneration.

The Quayside area is a hive of activity and the new occupiers will undoubtedly benefit from the continued increase in footfall and popularity.”

The bar, which is being marketed by Bradley Hall, is available to rent for £75,000 a year – but an additional £120,000 business premium is also sought for the goodwill of the business, plus stock at valuation.

Nicholas Bramwell, senior surveyor at Bradley Hall Chartered Surveyors and Estate Agents, said: “This is an outstanding opportunity to take over a successful business that boasts a 3am license seven days a week and occupies a prime location in a bustling area of Newcastle city centre.”

“Sandhill is a popular leisure and business destination in Newcastle and has surrounding occupiers including Tiger Hornsby, The Quilted Camel, Uno Trattoria, The Vermont Aparthotel, Aveika, Livello and House of Tides.

“We anticipate this premises will receive a great deal of interest and would encourage interested parties to contact our Newcastle office as soon as possible.”
