Newcastle pubs show their support for key workers during the coronavirus pandemic

A number of Newcastle pubs have shown their appreciation to dedicated NHS workers fighting the coronavirus.

Hungry Horse pubs – owned by pub giant Greene King – have invited their staff to get creative with their families to create a colourful poster to thank key workers for their efforts.

And despite being closed down with the UK currently in lockdown to slow the spread of Covid-19, branches in Newcastle have responded by sending out an important message to frontline workers including the emergency services and supermarket staff using small billboards.

Among the pubs to take part are the Corner House Hotel and Newton Park in High Heaton which have gone the extra mile to ensure those workers know the public is grateful for their vital contribution during the ongoing pandemic.

A spokeswoman for Hungry Horse said: "NHS staff, emergency services and other key workers are showing amazing commitment and resilience right now and we wanted to show a small gesture of our appreciation.

"Our pubs across Newcastle have really embraced this feeling of community togetherness and decided to create signs for their notice boards, thanking everyone who is on the front line of the pandemic, protecting and helping the public during this uncertain time.

"We hope that it will bring them a little happiness and know that everything they are doing is recognised and the whole country is grateful to them."
