Newcastle 'prepare' £20m bid for Ben Brereton Diaz and Gini Wijnaldum sent transfer message

Here is your 4am Newcastle United transfer digest.

Brereton Diaz bid?

Callum Wilson's injury has heightened speculation that Newcastle United will target a new striker in the January transfer window.

Gabriel Barbosa is a player who has been monitored by the Magpies over recent seasons, and the Brazil international is said to be interested by the prospect of a mid-season switch.

Another forward linked is Ben Brereton Diaz, who has enjoyed a stunning season to date with Blackburn Rovers after netting 20 goals in just 25 Championship appearances.

The Sunday Mirror claim the Magpies are lining up a £20m bid for the Chile striker, although Tony Mowbray has ruled out a January departure for the 22-year-old.

Wijnaldum message

Former United midfielder Gini Wijnaldum is understood to be unsettled at Paris Saint-Germain just months after leaving Liverpool at the end of his contract.

The Netherlands international enjoyed an impressive season at St James' Park in the 2015/16 campaign, and several reports have claimed the new owners are mulling over a possible swoop for the 31-year-old.

Pundit Paddy Kenny believes a return to Tyneside would be a 'no brainer' for both parties, telling Football Insider: “We know he played well up at Newcastle and he might be open to coming back on loan.

“They can afford his wages and they need quality players who can immediately improve them.

“When you look at it like that, it’s a no brainer. We know Newcastle are on the hunt.

“I would suspect a call has gone in. Everyone knows he’s available.

“I’m sure the fans would like that too, I don’t think there were any hard feelings when he left.”
