Newcastle 'plot move' for Brighton's technical director Dan Ashworth, according to reports

Newcastle United have placed Dan Ashworth high up on their director of football wish list as the new owners continue their hunt to fill the vacant role, according to reports.

The Sun claims the current Brighton and Hove Albion technical director is 'high up' on Newcastle's hit list alongside Frank McParland and Leeds United's Victor Orta.

Ashworth impressed during his time at West Bromwich Albion and was subsequently appointed by the FA as director of elite development.

The 50-year-old is one of the minds behind the current England DNA which is currently used to help create winning teams for both men and women at national level.

Ashworth was shortlisted for the role of technical director at Manchester United in August 2018, before moving to the Amex in a similar capacity a month later.

However, Brighton are keen to keep Ashworth at the club and Newcastle would be forced to pay a compensation fee.

Money, of course, will be no issue to the new owners at St. James' Park after the recent takeover made them the richest club in the world and the lure of working on a major project could work in the Magpies favour.
