Newcastle players left out have leftfield lifeline as Premier League set to reveal 25-man squad

Newcastle United players who have been left out of Eddie Howe's 25-man squad still have time to secure leftfield loan moves abroad - if they so wish.

Although Freddie Woodman and Jeff Hendrick both agreed temporary switches to Bournemouth and QPR respectively on deadline day, Howe has still had to omit three further players to accommodate new signings Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, Matt Targett and Dan Burn.

It remains to be seen who exactly will be left out - Jamal Lewis and Ciaran Clark are among those players whose places appear at risk - and ChronicleLive understands that the Premier League will be publishing the updated squads by the end of the week.

While some individuals at Newcastle have been reluctant to drop down to the Championship, or uproot their families, they face the possibility of essentially being training players for the rest of the season if they decide to stay put on Tyneside.

Newcastle have not had a situation quite like this since 2019 when Henri Saivet, Jack Colback, Achraf Lazaar, Rolando Aarons and Jamie Sterry were all still on the club's books despite being unable to play.

However, although Europe's major leagues are all closed for business, any unregistered players still have the chance to move to: Austria by Monday; Turkey by Tuesday; Serbia by February 11; Switzerland by February 15; Russia and, indeed, the Czech Republic by February 22; and Ukraine by March 22.

Clubs in these leagues are keeping an eye on those who are left out of the squads in an effort to sign players on loan that would have previously been unrealistic targets.

It may seem an unlikely prospect for Newcastle players to travel so far away from home to get game time, but Rolando Aarons did join Czech side Slovan Liberec on loan in 2018 - days after the window had shut in this country.
