Newcastle player sends Manchester United warning ahead of Boxing Day game

Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is calling on his team-mates to beat Manchester United on Boxing Day 'for the gaffer'.

The Magpies are managed by former United captain Steve Bruce, and head to Old Trafford looking to build on Saturday's 1-0 win against Crystal Palace - which sent them up to ninth place in the table.

United were toppled when the two teams met at St James' Park back in October and Dubravka is calling on his team-mates to repeat the performance on Thursday.

"It is a very important game and proud day for our manager, Hopefully we can give him what he wants, a win, and a double against his former club," Dubravka told the Chronicle .

"We go there with momentum and a good attitude. As team-mates, we are all so happy with this outcome because it was a tough game and we should take credit for beating a good team. Now let us do it again - and win it for the gaffer."

The goalkeeper added: "We have proved we can win without Saint Maximin. He is an important player because he attracts opponents towards him but today we won without him.

"Give Almirion credit as well. He is so dangerous. He was getting criticism for not scoring goals but as you can see, he runs everywhere for the team and is such an important player for us.

"Even I was jumping up and down when he scored because I know how hard he works for this team."
