Newcastle pair Rafa Benitez and Ayoze Pérez pay tribute to José Antonio Reyes following the former Arsenal man's passing

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez and forward Ayoze Pérez have both paid tribute to José Antonio Reyes following his sad passing.

The former Arsenal winger was involved in a fatal car accident on Saturday morning, with current club Sevilla confirming the news of his sad passing on their Twitter account.

The Spanish side's Tweet read: "We couldn't be confirming worse news. Beloved Sevilla star José Antonio Reyes has died in a traffic collision. Rest in peace."

The news has sent shock waves throughout the world of football, with a whole host of clubs and stars paying tribute to the 35-year-old.

And Toon star Perez was one of those to pay tribute to the former Real Madrid man on social media.

He Tweeted: "Terribles noticias que llegan desde España... Descansa en paz, José Antonio Reyes, un abrazo enorme a su familia. Terrible news from Spain, RIP Reyes ."

Before boss Benitez also took to Twitter to pay tribute to his fellow Spaniard.

"It is with great sadness that I have heard of the tragic death of José Antonio Reyes. All our thoughts and prayers at this sad time are with his family RIP," the 59-year-old posted.

Reyes leaves behind his wife Noelia Lopez, whom he married in June 2017, and three children, daughters Noelia and Triana and son Jose Antonio Jr.
