Newcastle notes: Post-game moment that blew Howe away, defensive woe and tough media question for boss

Eddie Howe did not get the dream start to life in the dugout as Newcastle United head coach.

But that did not stop the travelling Toon Army from giving him a reception that will live with him forever at the Emirates Stadium.

On a day in which Storm Arwen caused huge issues for the Geordie fans with some supporters missing kick off and some not making it all, the away contingent did not just clap their team off - they roared them off the field.

For Howe, it must have left a positive impression but he will be desperate to do well for his new fanbase.

At his opening Press conference, he'd requested positivity and that's exactly what he's got.

It was a reaction from fans that left Arsenal supporters stunned as players made their way over to the away end.

The hard work continues now at the training ground before Howe faces the media again on Monday morning ahead of the Norwich game.

One big thought on the minds of Howe and his coaching team will be what type of post-game reaction will the Magpies get once they have won their game?

Defensive woes continue regardless of how Newcastle set-up

It was a back three again at the Emirates Stadium for Howe while he also changed goalkeeper in Martin Dubravka.

But nothing could stop Newcastle from falling to defeat at the Emirates even if it looked like the Slovakia stopper at one stage looked capable of a clean sheet on his comeback game.

Unfortunately, class told as Arsenal scored two goals in the space of 10 minutes to secure their seventh straight win in all competitions at home.

Whether Howe looks to change things again when Norwich arrive on Tyneside remains to be seen but both Federico Fernandez and even Isaac Hayden as a centre-back remain options.

This isn't going to change overnight but the need for a top quality defender in January is surely there for all to see?

Eddie Howe asked about the calibre of players at his disposal in Press conference

January is just around the corner and Newcastle need to be ready - but Howe can't do anything but work with the players he has until the winter window.

Confidence is not as high as it could be and Newcastle's soft underbelly defensively is there for all to see.

After the game, Howe was asked about the squad he must work with between now and then.

He said: "I think my own experience has helped me in that I know that you can achieve some remarkable things in football if you believe and stay united.

"I've just come into the situation, the two games I've seen we know we can compete with the teams in the division, that's clear.

"We competed in the match and gave them problems going the other way"
