NEWCASTLE Museum will reopen on Tuesday for three hour-long sessions as the city's cultural attractions return to normal operation.
The Honeysuckle museum will offer three daily one-hour windows between 9.30am and 1.30pm in its return from coronavirus lockdown. Online bookings are required to visit the free attraction, which is slated to open between Tuesday and Saturday each week.
City of Newcastle said the sessions would be capped at 45 people to allow the visitors to enjoy the museum's attractions and comply with NSW public health orders.
Lord mayor Nuatali Nelmes said the opening was an exciting step in the city's move back towards a more normal civic life after the gallery and libraries began reopening from the end of May.
"Following on from the successful reopening of the Newcastle Art Gallery and several Newcastle Regional Library branches, I'm pleased to see the community once again given the opportunity to enjoy the cultural and historic displays on offer at Newcastle Museum," she said.
"As with all our reopened facilities, careful planning has gone in to being able to safely reintroduce staff and visitors into this space. We ask that visitors continue to practise social distancing, following the floor markers and direction of our staff."
Museum director Julie Baird said interactive attractions would remain closed but the venue was eager to offer insight into the region's past.
"We're so pleased to be able to open our doors and invite visitors back to Newcastle Museum," she said.
