Newcastle move first home game and could face further disruption if Spurs succeed in Europe

Newcastle United's home clash with Brighton & Hove Albion has been switched to a Sunday afternoon.

The first encounter of the new campaign at St James' Park now takes place Sunday, 20th September with a 2pm kick off due to Brighton's League Cup game on the preceding Thursday night.

United's trip to Tottenham Hotspur a week later could also move.

The clash in the capital is scheduled for September 26 but is likely to move to the Sunday if Tottenham reach the Europa League group stages.

A United statement confirmed that fans will not be permitted entry for the first match of the new season against Brighton and read: "Due to the coronavirus outbreak, and the current government guidelines, supporters are not permitted to attend Premier League matches at this time."

Newcastle's first game of the season against West Ham United is scheduled for September 12 at the London Stadium.
