Newcastle morning headlines as Bruce eyes January loans and Indalecio on his Magpies rise

Here are the Newcastle morning headlines for Wednesday, November 18.

Indalecio on his incredible journey

You’ll have seen the clip by now, as it went viral. Florent Indalecio scored a stunning scissor kick in a training game with Newcastle’s under-23 side which brought the attacking midfielder plenty of attention.

He was without a club at the time, but has since earned himself a contract with Newcastle until the end of the season.

It has been a remarkable journey for the 23-year-old, who was previously playing in the fifth tier of Australian football and bricklaying on the side to earn some extra money.

He got the trial with the Magpies thanks to his friendship with Allan Saint-Maximin, and Indalecio has spoken about his experience and the help which Newcastle’s number 10 has given him here.

Euro 2020 door open for Ritchie

Matt Ritchie hasn’t played for Scotland for over two years, but he has insisted that he hasn’t retired from international football just yet.

And with the Scots having qualified for a major tournament for the first time in 22 years, who can blame him? They couldn’t have really asked for a better group than having two games at Hampden Park and a derby with England in the other match either.

The 31-year-old will obviously need to have a great season in order to force his way into manager Steve Clarke’s squad next summer, but it’s a realistic aim.

Ritchie has previously spoken about his international experience while playing in the Championship with Newcastle, as you can read here.

Loan signings heading to St James’ Park?

Steve Bruce will be looking to bolster his squad by making some loan signings in January, according to The Athletic (and reported by Inside Futbol).

Newcastle have two domestic loan slots open for potential signings, and the club will look to fill them as a relatively low cost way to improve Bruce’s options.

The manager is reportedly looking for new blood through the spine of the team, so it will be interesting to see who they target. Away from the Premier League, Reims striker Boulaye Dia is also said to be of interest to the Magpies.
