Newcastle midfielder Joe Willock has a message for Steve Bruce after more late heroics

Joe Willock spoke of his delight after scoring a stoppage time equaliser to secure a vital point for Newcastle United at Anfield.

The midfielder struck in the 95th minute as United conjured up a stirring response after seeing a goal chalked off via VAR for a handball from Callum Wilson.

It was a harsh moment for Newcasttle but they dug deep.

After the game Willock said: "I don’t want to be labelled a super sub but I’m happy I helped the team to a vital point that keeps us up in this league.

"Through these last weeks we’ve been growing in confidence, so much spirit and today shows how far we have come as a team.

"When you are come here and you are losing 1-0 for 89/90 minutes, it shows how far we’ve come that we got a point out of it.

"You can’t really celebrate right now with VAR but I had a feeling it was a goal. Things are going for me at the moment and I’m happy I can help the team."

And speaking about Liverpool's dominance, Willock said: "They stay very high. [Just needed] that extra pass or extra shot. I was happy we could get the goal in the end.

"Hopefully, it is more the performance we need to keep up.

"I don't feel like we were showing what we can earlier. What we are showing now is brilliant and we continue like that we will be safe for sure.

"I am a Newcastle player at the moment. I am learning every week and I am enjoying my football at the moment."
