Newcastle may have signed his best player but club have found new ally in Eddie Howe favourite

Jason Tindall has revealed he looks out for Newcastle United's results because the former Bournemouth manager is 'immensely proud' to see so many of his old colleagues at the club.

Tindall was Eddie Howe's assistant when Matt Ritchie, Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson helped fire Bournemouth to promotion to the Premier League for the first time in the club's history back in 2015.

Following Bournemouth's relegation to the Championship, last summer, Tindall succeeded Howe as the Cherries' new boss after spending 11 years as his No 2.

During his six months in charge, Tindall bid farewell to striker Callum Wilson and first-team coach Graeme Jones, who both ended up at Newcastle.

It had not been the most common of moves until Ritchie blazed a trail and swapped the Vitality Stadium for St James' Park back in 2016.

Wilson and Fraser, who was out of contract, ultimately followed Ritchie to Tyneside - just when it seemed like their former Bournemouth team-mate might be on his way back to the South Coast.

Indeed, Andy Carroll even made a joke about that when the quartet sat down for an introductory dinner and quipped: "Ritchie to Bournemouth? I don't think so. We're bringing Bournemouth to Ritchie!"

The exodus did not stop there. Even Jones, who was only appointed as Bournemouth's first-team coach last August, ended up joining his boyhood club just five months later.

So, to recap, Tindall lost his star player and a key member of staff and was denied a reunion with one of his top targets before the Londoner lost his job earlier this year.

Yet, tellingly, Tindall has taken great pride in seeing Jones, Wilson, Ritchie and Fraser all plying their trade on Tyneside.

"When you've got people that you've worked with so closely and when you've had a huge part in their development and progress throughout their career and you see those players go on and do exceptionally well for themselves, as a coach, as a manager, it makes you immensely proud," he told ChronicleLive.

"You always look out for them and you always want them to continue to do well and that's no different for myself.

"I always look out for their results because those guys are there and, most recently, with Graeme going there, it makes you look out for how they're doing even more.

"I'm so pleased that Newcastle finished the season so well. I'm so pleased for Callum, Ryan, Matty - three fantastic lads - and then there's also the respect I have for Graeme and how much I admire him.

"It's really pleasing to see and I'm looking forward to following their progress again next season."
