Newcastle marriage proposal makes the 'news' | VIDEO

Good News: NBN News reporter Lauren Kempe has revealed some important 'news' about a Tingira Heights couple.

Garry Luxton made quite the newsworthy marriage proposal to his partner Allison.

The Tingira Heights couple marked their anniversary of getting together as a couple on New Year's Day.

"I thought I better make it a bit fair dinkum. I wanted to propose to her, so I was trying to think of a way to do it," Garry said.

Garry's decision to pop the question was, of course, big 'news'.

He managed to get Lauren to record a mock news story at Foreshore Park in Newcastle.

"Today marks nine years since the pair first got together and they've been together ever since side by side," Lauren said in the video.

"NBN can exclusively reveal that Garry would like to ask Allison to be his wife. Allison what do you say?"

Garry and Allison.

Garry posted the video on his Facebook page.

On New Year's Day, he said to Allison: "I might have mentioned you on Facebook".

He often puts jokes about her on Facebook, so she replied something like: "Oh, what have I done now".

"She was watching it, thinking it was a news story," Garry said.

As she watched the video, Garry stood behind her holding an engagement ring in an open case.

"She spun around and saw it. That's when the tears started," he said.

Topics: "Did she answer on Facebook with a thumbs up and an emoji?"

Garry: "No, but she slapped me and said yes, which I'm glad about."

Allison got a nice surprise by Lauren's video. She'll get a surprise about this story, too.

"I get the paper delivered, so once I read it I'll leave it sitting on the kitchen table," Garry said with a chuckle.

Glorious Rain

We got some rain down our way on Thursday night. Hooray!

We stood outside in our garden and let those beautiful raindrops hit us.

Actually, they weren't quite drops. They were more like a hose on mist setting.

But it was still rain! Now all we need is a whole lot more of that precious stuff.

Car Trouble

Bob "Minmi Magster" Skelton doesn't get why authorities leave abandoned cars on the side of roads near bush, particularly with the fire danger.

Bob's Minmi property has plenty of bush around, so he's understandably annoyed at the risk of these abandoned cars being set alight and causing major fires.

He's contacted authorities about the cars, which often get torched.

"I feel like I'm banging my head against the wall," he said.

"They'll impound a cow, horse or dog straight away, so why not an abandoned car?"
