Newcastle man admits part in hotel 'flare-up' that saw bottles hurled at windows

A Newcastle man has admitted his part in a hotel disturbance that saw bottles of alcohol being thrown at the windows.

Liam Boyle, 33, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court in connection with an incident at the Hardwick Hall Hotel, in Sedgefield.

Boyle, of Eastgarth, Newcastle , pleaded guilty to three charges of criminal damage, assault and affray.

He was remanded in custody to appear for sentence at Durham Crown Court on February 17.

Police were called at about 2.30am on Sunday after reports of an assault and objects being thrown around the hotel lobby.

Bottles of alcohol had also been thrown at several windows at the hotel, causing substantial damage.

The 50-room hotel remained closed on Sunday while the damage was cleared up and police continued their investigation.

A manager at the hotel confirmed to Teesside Live there had been an incident involving a guest who “got slightly annoyed with himself” but it had been “dealt with and sorted out”.

The hotel, a popular venue for weddings, meetings and events, operated as normal on Monday.
