Newcastle 'make contact' and ready for £50m raid on Chelsea as Amanda Staveley networks

Newcastle United are reportedly in "regular contact" with Timo Werner's agent as they look to flex their spending muscles in January.

The Magpies became the richest club in the world after their £300m Saudi-led takeover was completed as Mike Ashley left the club.

Steve Bruce's men are now looking to splash their influx of cash in the upcoming transfer window and plenty of big names have been discussed.

And it's claimed Germany international Werner is the latest player they are targeting, according to BILD.

The report says they have frequently been in discussions with the forward's representatives.

Amanda Staveley, who is on the Newcastle board, is looking to take advantage of her network as defender Fabian Schar has the same agency as Werner.

Should Chelsea cut their losses with Timo Werner or will he eventually come good? Comment below

Werner had a disappointing debut season at Stamford Bridge after arriving from Red Bull Leipzig for £45million as he struggles in front of goal were well documented.

His future was thrown in doubt in the summer when Chelsea signed Romelu Lukaku for £97.5m to address their goalscoring issues.

Werner has seen limited game time as a result as he continues to be linked with an exit from London.

The 25-year-old has shown an upturn in form in recent weeks, however, as Thomas Tuchel started both him and Lukaku last time out.

Werner scored the decisive goal against Southampton as he put the Blues 2-1 in front in the 84th minute, despite having a goal disallowed by VAR earlier, before Ben Chilwell would seal the 3-1 victory.

The striker then carried that form into the international break as he netted a brace for Germany in the 4-0 over North Macedonia in their World Cup qualifier.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea would part ways with Werner, but it seems Newcastle are set to test their resolve as they look to bring multiple reinforcements in over the next two transfer windows.

Newcastle are also trying to raid the Blues' Premer League title rivals Manchester United with reports they are looking at four players at Old Trafford.

One of those is Jesse Lingard who is on the fringes of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, while Anthony Martial, Eric Bailly and Donny van de Beek are also under consideration.
