In the region of 30,000 readers had their say when ChronicleLive first launched Newcastle Loves in 2019. After a successful launch and a ceremony in the city centre, we had a clear vision of making the awards a yearly occasion and were quickly thinking ahead to what the year would bring. Sadly, Covid had other ideas and we sadly had to press pause on Newcastle Loves for two years in a row, at a time when people involved in the local hospitality sector fought tirelessly to keep their businesses afloat and come up with new ideas to adapt to the unpresented and unnerving situation.

And that's exactly why we were so determined to bring Newcastle Loves back for 2022, with a rejigging of categories, to introduce a few new ones including one championing people's efforts during the pandemic.
