Newcastle legend meets Roger Federer day after tennis star pulls out of French Open

Former Newcastle United midfielder Laurent Robert has been enjoying an afternoon in Paris - running into Tennis legend Roger Federer.

Robert, whose Instagram is full of snaps of him enjoying an envious lifestyle of fine food, wine and hot weather, snapped a picture with Federer at a posh hotel in the French capital.

Federer had been playing in the French Open but after beating Dominik Koepfer in the third round, pulled out to protect his body ahead of Wimbledon which starts later this month.

At the age of 40, the 20-time grand slam champion made the decision to forfeit his place after only playing three times in 16 months before the French Open kicked off.

"After two knee surgeries and over a year of rehabilitation it's important that I listen to my body and make sure I don't push myself too quickly on my road to recovery," Federer said in a statement.

Robert posted a picture with Federer with the caption 'a very nice meeting'.

The French winger turned out for United between 2001-06, scoring some memorable goals under the management of Sir Bobby Robson.
