Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has Gary Lineker and Micah Richards in stitches naming all-time EURO XI

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer had fellow BBC pundits Gary Lineker and Micah Richards in hysterics while naming his all-time European Championship XI.

'Big Al' was appearing alongside the duo on the latest episode of BBC podcast 'Match of the Day: Top 10', as the BBC continue to count down to the start of EURO 2020 on Friday evening.

In the latest episode, the three former England internationals were tasked with naming their all-time European Championship XI from a list of names provided to them from BBC Sport staff.

Shearer, whose five strikes during EURO 1996 famously saw him win the Golden Boot as England suffered a heartbreaking semi-final exit following a penalty shootout defeat to Germany.

As a result, Newcastle's record goalscorer was among the nominees to be named in the starting XI up front and when it came to naming his strikers, Lineker and Richards couldn't contain their laughter as they anticipated Shearer to name himself.

But as you can see in the clip above, Shearer duped his colleagues and instead named a formidable forward line of Zinedine Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo and Marco van Basten.

You can listen to the full podcast here, while the show's back catalogue of European Championship preview episodes can be found here.
