Newcastle Ladies Day food and drink rules as Gosforth Park prepares for action

Prosecco, Pimms and cocktails no doubt will be flowing in July when racegoers descend upon the city to celebrate Ladies Day.

The annual highlight at Gosforth Park takes place this year on July 23 with - in addition to the day's racing - all the extra attractions such as the Style Awards, which have lavish prize for the best-dressed visitor, and new ones too this year including additional bars and the introduction of dining pods.

While Ladies Day at Newcastle Racecourse tends to attract its regulars from around Newcastle and beyond, there are also newcomers at the event every year. As food and drink features large in the big day for most people, there will be some left wondering whether or not they can take along refreshments of their own.

While the racecourse has an option - for certain events and for holders of a certain ticket - to take along a picnic, to be enjoyed in a specified Picnic Enclosure in the Grandstand, this is not the case for all race days. This year there are new dining options available for Ladies Day so here is the information - and other regulations - to note.

Can you take in food?

Picnics are sometimes allowed in the racecourse's designated picnic area - although drinks are not allowed and the ban applies to soft drinks as well as alcohol. BBQs are not allowed either.

This year there are no ticket options available for the racecourse Picnic Enclosure but racegoers will find plenty of outlets available where a variety of food and drink can be bought. There are new hospitality options available this Ladies Day so read more about those below.

Bag searches may be in operation upon entry to the racecourse

Can you take in alcohol?

No. It is strictly forbidden to take alcohol onto the racecourse so any will be confiscated by security staff upon arrival. Alcohol can be bought at a number of on-site bars available in all enclosures.

Ticket options and hospitality

With the Gainford Group sponsoring the event, ticket options are named after various bars it owns and they include the Hudson Grandstand Ticket which, priced £40, is the general admission ticket. A Livello Premier Ticket, allowing entry to the The Livello Premier Enclosure, costs £60. See all the ticket options here.

There is a range of hospitality packages and upmarket dining options available for Ladies Day this year. New additions include a VIP £2,400 Pod in the Park package, aiming to take race day to the next level.

Included, for those able to really splash out, is a private luxury dining pod - which can take a maximum of eight people - with a private white picket fence garden and outdoor seating in the centre course of the track. It offers two bottles of Champagne and a gourmet grazing platter, plus a dedicated host for the day and a race day programme.
