Newcastle Jets stars re-enact scene from Titanic

Touching Scene: Ben Kantarovski and Dimitri Petratos in a photo that reminded us of a certain scene from a very famous movie.

Who doesn't love the scene in Titanic in which Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet have a cuddle and kiss on the bow of the Titanic?

Newcastle Jets stars Dimitri Petratos and Ben Kantarovski appeared to be having a go at re-enacting the scene in a photo on the Jets' 2019-20 membership pack, sent to fans.

In the photo, Petratos takes on the part of Winslet, while Kantarovski does a stellar job of filling DiCaprio's shoes.

Leo and Kate in that famous scene.

We can picture the scene now. Kantarovski covers the eyes of Petratos and leads him to the bow of the ship.

"Hold onto the railing, keep your eyes closed, don't peek," Kantarovski says to Petratos, as the romantic Titanic theme song, My Heart Will Go On, plays in the background.

"I'm not," Petratos replies in a sultry tone.

"Do you trust me?" Kantarovski asks.

"I trust you," Petratos replies.

Kantarovski moves the arms of Petratos out wide and says, "All right, open your eyes".

Petratos gasps: "I'm flying".

And then, Celine Dion sings her song: "Near, far, wherever you are, I believe that the heart does go on; Once more you open the door, And you're here in my heart, And my heart will go on and on. Love can touch us one time, And last for a lifetime, And never let go 'til we're gone."

Ahh Celine, you get us every time.

Dry Humour

Speaking of the Jets, many fans admired the goal that Panamanian striker Abdiel Arroyo scored against Adelaide on Saturday.

Great name, Arroyo.

A Topics spy told us he'd heard the name before. Jim Morrison uttered the word "arroyo" in a track called "Latino Chrome" on The Doors album, American Prayer.

He looked up its meaning.

"Arroyo means dry gully," he said.

Jim Morrison's lyrics go like this: "Scenes of rape in the arroyo; Seduction in cars, abandoned buildings; Fights at the food stand; The dust, the shoes; Open shirts and raised collars, Bright sculptured hair."

Ahh Jim, you get us every time.

We're not too sure if Arroyo knows the dry meaning of his name, but Jets fans will be hoping his goals don't dry up.

Missing Budgies

Where have all the budgies gone? That is the question.

BirdLife Australia has been doing its annual Aussie Bird Count.

"The budgie is typically a boom or bust bird and this year is no different," said Australia's chief bird nerd Sean Dooley [that's actually what he called himself].

The 2018 Aussie Bird Count revealed huge flocks of budgerigars in outback Queensland and Northern Territory backyards.

This year, there was a 90 per cent decrease in the number of budgies counted.

"Hopefully they are out there somewhere. We would love to find out where these birds have got to," Sean said.
