The new bus terminal adjacent Newcastle Interchange will officially open on Sunday July 5, the NSW government has announced.
The terminal, built as part of a multi-storey car park on The Store site, will be used by local and regional bus operators, coaches and periodically for heavy and light rail replacement services.
"We expect around 300 buses to utilise the [terminal] on a weekly basis," a Transport for NSW spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Despite speculation the terminal's opening would result in major changes to the city's bus network, only one route will have a minor change.

The terminal will be added as a stop on route 22. Frequent routes 11, 13 and 14 will continue to operate to and from Customs House.
The old bus layover next to The Station in Newcastle's east end is being transformed into a public space.
The car park above the new terminal will open to the public in coming months, but is ultimately for tenants of an adjacent development.
