Newcastle injury list in full with 13 players ruled out or doubtful for Southampton clash

Newcastle United's mounting Covid and injury crisis has put their upcoming fixture with Southampton at risk of postponement.

The Magpies's successfully applied to the Premier League to rearrange their Thursday night trip to Everton after suffering a number of injuries in Monday night's draw with Manchester United.

Eddie Howe warned his side were 'dangerously close' to the 13-man limit required for postponements, and reports since have indicated the latest Covid-19 outbreak has spread among the squad.

The club statement on Tuesday confirmed individuals who have tested positive and are required to isolate as a result will not be named.

Newcastle may have been spared the short turnaround for the visit to the blue-half of Merseyside, but Howe will almost certainly still be down to the bare bones of his squad should Sunday's scheduled encounter at St Mary's go ahead.

Here is a look at the full list of likely absentees for the Magpies.

Ciaran Clark

The Republic of Ireland international was not included in the matchday squad to face the Red Devils.

The former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper who has previously spoken of his debilitating experience of contracting Covid-19 was also not named on the bench on Monday night.

Paul Dummett

A calf injury suffered in pre-season has prevented Dummett from featuring all season, but the defender was pictured in training last week and is understood to be edging closer to a return.

Federico Fernandez

Howe previously confirmed the veteran centre-back is expected to miss the entirety of the festive schedule after picking up a 'slight thigh' complaint earlier this month.

Ryan Fraser

The former Bournemouth winger put in arguably one of his best displays in a black-and-white shirt in Monday night's draw, but is suffering with a hamstring injury which could rule him out this weekend.

Isaac Hayden

Hayden was suspended for the clash with Ralf Ragnick's side, but has since shared a picture of himself in a knee brace following an operation.

Jamal Lewis

The almost forgotten Steve Bruce signing had impressed upon his return to the starting eleven, but a hamstring injury suffered at Anfield is expected to rule him out until the middle of January.

Javier Manquillo

The Spanish full-back earned a booking in added time against the Red Devils, and will subsequently be suspended for one match after racking up five yellow cards.

Matt Ritchie

The former Scotland international was another player not to be included by Howe in Monday night's matchday squad.

Allan Saint-Maximin

The influential number 10 limped off late on against Manchester United with no return date given, but Howe has downplayed fears over a long-term injury.

Fabian Schar

Schar was nursing a knock late on the 1-1 draw at St James' Park, and the demands of the hectic festive schedule have potentially taken a toll on the 30-year-old.

Joe Willock

Having established a midfield partnership with Jonjo Shelvey in recent weeks, the club's only senior summer signing was not involved on Monday night.

Callum Wilson

No return date has yet been offered for the Magpies' leading goalscorer who had to be substituted in the first-half against Manchester United, with Howe later stating the striker could be out for 'months'.
