Newcastle howler prompts Nottingham Forest and Man United instruction

Dean Henderson has been tipped to be England's number one by supporters following Nick Pope's performance versus Germany last night.

The Forest goalkeeper was an unused substitute for the second straight game at Wembley Stadium as Gareth Southgate's side concluded their Nations League campaign with a 3-3 draw.

Goals from Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Harry Kane put the Three Lions ahead after Ilkay Gundogan and Kai Havertz put Hansi Flick's side two goals ahead. Havertz was on the scoresheet again late on to rescue a point in a thrilling contest in London.

Henderson joined Pope and Aaron Ramsdale as the goalkeeper options for Southgate, but was not selected to feature in either game against Italy and Germany. The 25-year-old has only made one appearance for the national team and will be targeting the number one spot in the World Cup.

With Jordan Pickford out injured, England's supporters have urged Southgate to give the Reds shot-stopper the number one strip in November. Here's what they've said...

@TJBH: Dean Henderson England number 1

@IanMurrayHall: It's fair to say this evening has been a good one for Dean Henderson

@StephenBalding7: The boy at Forest on loan from United! He's the man! Going to be Englands number 1 once he's given a chance

@freulerszn: Dean Henderson, the number one is yours son

@GaryKirby28: Surely Dean Henderson gets a WC spot now?

@DominicWiffin: Dean Henderson no1 for me he's been nothing short of class this year for Nottingham Forest

@KwasiNawil: Dean Henderson would have prevented two of Germany's goal. Southgate started the wrong keeper.

@real_amos: Pickford, Dean Henderson and Ramsdale are the only keepers that should be going to Qatar

@Armchaireverton: I'm putting this out there but I think Pope now has no chance of being in goal in the World Cup. Surely Dean Henderson overtakes him in pecking order.

@ThorpeyNFFC: Get Dean Henderson in goal, best English goalkeeper by far.
