Newcastle hosts The Greatest Showman Sing-a-long this weekend in a double-bill with Grease

Passers-by and shoppers out in Newcastle this coming weekend could well find themselves tempted to join a bit of a sing-song.

Musical favourites The Greatest Showman and Grease are to have an outdoor screening -  and audience participation is being actively encouraged at what is being dubbed Sing-a-long Saturday.

The films - the 2017 Hugh Jackman success and the somewhat older but ever-popular Grease - are a highlight of the current Screen on the Green programme under way in Newcastle 's Old Eldon Sqaure.

The special sing-along versions will have on-screen subtitles so that the audience can follow - and join in - all the famous musical numbers.

The double treat will begin with The Greatest Showman at noon on July 27 then John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John will be back in action in the 1978 classic Grease and such memorable songs as You're The One That I Want; Summer Nights and Greased Lightnin'.

The Screen on the Green daily programme is running throughout the school holidays, with a range of movies and sorts designed to include something for everybody.

For the rest of the NE1 film programme, which includes a screening of Bohemian Rhapsody this Sunday, July 28, see .
