Newcastle hit with further blow for Eddie Howe as NHS guidelines mean he will miss Arsenal trip

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe must self isolate for 10 days - meaning he will also miss next weekend’s trip to Arsenal.

And the new head coach must also sit out of training in the build-up to the encounter at the Emirates Stadium.

NHS guidelines indicate that anybody who tests positive with Covid must self isolate for 10 days.

Howe will work remotely with players and staff over Zoom.

After being ruled out of the home clash with Brenftord, Howe said: “I’m very disappointed that I won’t be there with you all at St James’ Park tomorrow, but it is incredibly important that I follow the guidelines and self-isolate.

“I’d like to reassure everyone that I feel fine, and while this is unwelcome news for me, I know it hasn’t derailed our preparations for what is an important game.

"I have been, and will be, in constant communication with my coaching team and the players, both tomorrow and during the week, and I know they will be giving everything on and off the pitch."

Graeme Jones and Jason Tindall will take the Magpies for both games.
