Former Newcastle United striker Faustino Asprilla has announced that he will be giving away over one million condoms, in a bid to tackle the contraceptive crisis.
Malaysian company Karex BHD, which produced one in five condoms worldwide, went bust because of the current coronavirus outbreak.
Now the former Magpies fan favourite has revealed he will be giving away a box of condoms from his factory for every three bought.
The 50-year-old said in a social media post: "This quarantine due to coronavirus is not a good thing.
"I have a lot of condoms left in the company and I want people to help me use them... because it is very difficult for me to use them all!
"I only have 3,580,000 condoms left. Until we can re-open the factory we are not going to produce any more.
"To help the population I intend to give away a box of condoms as a gift for the purchase of a box of three."
Asprilla was a core player in Newcastle's 'Entertainers' period under Kevin Keegan, scoring 18 goals in 60 games, while he also featured for his native Colombia in two World Cups and two Copa America.
His best spell was when he played for Parma between 1992 - 1996, during which point he was named by FIFA as the third-best player in the world.
But the former footballer has more recently become famed for his antics off the football pitch since his retirement 15 years ago.
Most notably, last year he spearheaded a huge manhunt for his bull, Lagrimon, after the animal was kidnapped.
The bull was eventually found and returned to Asprilla who had admitted that he felt 'depressed' without his prized companion.
The former striker, who has been a producer of flavoured condoms since 2014, once even featured naked on the front cover of Soho magazine – but he has always maintained that he has declined offers to work in the porn industry.
